Provenance |
The Sea Gull II was built in 1930, after the destruction of the Sea Gull I, and used many salvaged parts from the original; including the engine, boiler and superstructure cabins and was just a little smaller than the original. At this time the lumber industry was in decline and a tugboat was no longer needed, but the birth of the Dionne quintuplets brought tourism to the area and the ship was used as a tour boat. The Sea Gull II was the last steam ship on Lake Nipissing. There was some interest in keeping the ship as a museum, but ultimately the ship was dismantled in 1960. Captained by Donald Green, Victor Darling, Michael (Mac) Masson The Woodchuck was the last steam driven alligator on Nipissing. It was used in Callander bay for towing logs through shallow water to various sawmills. It was dismantled and scrapped in 1955. Captained by Thomas Darling, Michael (Mac) Masson |
