Description |
Black and white photo: Logger bunkhouses |
Provenance |
When they weren't working six days a week from dawn until dusk, the men lived in bunkhouses where they talked, smoked, and played cards with one another. Because of the long days and hard work, lumberjacks could burn up to 5,000 calories a day which kept the cook and his assistants very busy. Mealtime was taken seriously. Each man had an assigned seat, and no one spoke unless it was to ask for bread or beans. They were in and out in twenty minutes which allowed the cooks time to clean up and begin preparing for the next meal. |
