Description |
Colour photograph of the Chief Commanda I at the North Bay dock |
Provenance |
The Chief Commanda is a diesel-powered cruiser that regularly carried tourists from the North Bay dock to the French River. During the War of 1812, the commander (or commanda, with a British accent) was the leader of the British troops. In the same way, the Nipissing war-leader Chief Rotten-Wood was called "Chief Commanda" and the name continued with his descendants. The Chief Commanda was docked in 1975 on the French River to become a museum and restaurant. Since then it has been moved to the North Bay dock where it is now a restaurant and night club called The Boat. Captained by Victor Darling, William Rowe, Lorne Rowe |
